Students and faculty members of the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department distinguished themselves at the 2025-2026 Fall Semester Closing Dinner with a menu reflecting the early Republican Era. The closing dinner, held at the TGA Ankyra Training Restaurant, hosted Başkent University Founder Prof. Dr. Mehmet Haberal, Başkent University Rector Prof. Dr. Hakan Özkardeş, and other administrators. The main theme of the Food and Beverage Production and Service course was the Culinary Culture of the Early Republican Era. The course instructor, Arda Er, provided information about the menu. Chef Instructor Bekir Talha Erol adapted Ottoman texts to contemporary culinary culture in preparing the menu. After the meal, Başkent University Founder Prof. Dr. Haberal congratulated the students and faculty members. The early Republican era menu received high praise from Başkent University Founder Prof. Dr. Haberal and the academics.

At this special gathering, held at the invitation of the course instructor, Chef Aylin Doğaner, our students had the opportunity to learn hands-on the unique techniques, traditional recipes, and cultural background of Far Eastern cuisine. Through the unique products they prepared, an interdisciplinary perspective on culinary art was developed.

Slovenia's Michelin-Award-winning Executive Chef Miha Dolinar and students of the SBMYO Culinary, Bakery, and Pastry Program meticulously prepared and served exquisite flavors from Turkish and Slovenian cuisine to the distinguished guests. Throughout the event, interaction, cultural exchange, and a friendly atmosphere were at the forefront, and attendees experienced meaningful and delicious moments.

8,600-Year-Old Neolithic Çatalhöyük Bread
Organized by Başkent University Center for Culture and Art Research (BÜKSAM), with the contributions and support of Başkent University Turkish Culinary Culture and Application Center (TÜMAR), Başkent University Thermopolium Gastronomy Academy (TGA) and the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture, on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 11:00, a seminar titled "The Beginning of the Bread and Yeast Adventure in Anatolia and the World: 8,600-Year-Old Neolithic Period Çatalhöyük Bread" was given by Anadolu University Faculty Member and Former Çatalhöyük Excavation Project Director Prof. Dr. Ali Umut TÜRKCAN and Gaziantep University Faculty Member and Archaeobotanical Expert Assist.Prof. Salih KAVAK at the Avni Akyol Conference Hall. At 13.30, the experimental production of 8,600-year-old Çatalhöyük Bread was carried out at the Thermopolium Gastronomy Academy (TGA) and at 17.30 in the evening, our guests participated in the live television program on the Kanal B Günce Program .

On May 9, 2025, within the scope of the cooperation of Turkish Culinary Culture and Application Center (TÜMAR) and Yemekdili, Chef Ali Ronay met with our students at Başkent University Thermopolium Gastronomy Academy (TGA) and held a workshop in our kitchens and a presentation on "Contemporary Chef and Turkish Cuisine". Hosted by Başkent University, in cooperation with the Chinese Embassy and the Turkish-Chinese Women's Friendship and Culture Association, the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts (GMS), the Social Sciences Vocational School Cooking Program and the Turkish Culinary Culture Application and Research Center (TÜMAR) organized a Turkish-Chinese Gastrodiplomacy event on February 21, 2025 to promote Turkish and Chinese culinary culture. Within the scope of the event, the Founder of our University, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Haberal, and the Chinese Ambassador, Jiang Xuebin, exchanged important views on friendship and educational cooperation between the two countries. This special event aimed to promote the rich heritage of Turkish and Chinese cuisines through cultural diplomacy and to further strengthen relations between the two countries.

On 11-13 November 2023, our Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department hosted a wonderful international event themed "Women and Gastronomy". Chefs from Spain, Slovenia and Turkey, including Michelin Stars, organized workshops with our department faculty members and students for 2 days. We are proud to organize and host such an important event. Spanish Chefs Maria Jose San Roman, Maria Jimenez Latorre, Mimunt Hamido attended the event. Chef Sabina Repovz from Slovenia and Chef Aylin Yazıcıoğlu from Turkey attended. Spanish Gastronomy researcher and writer Ivan Moreno gave a seminar about Spanish gastronomy on the first day of the event.
